Can a Christian perform an exorcism on an atheist?

Postby Mountain Man » Thu Dec 10, 2015 9:13 am

Could christian walk to a random athiest on a street and exorcise him? I've been watching exorcisms on youtube and these are exorcisms performed on christians or other people who claim they are possessed. So I'm wondering if a christian can do a deliverance on an unbelieving skeptical athiest. To be fair, an athiest who happens to have ocd, autism, etc or a generational curse which some christians attribute to demonic influence. Believer or not, the demons should respond to the exorcist's prayer and faith.

It sounds as if you are equating atheism with demon possession, which is not a legitimate assumption. If we look in the Gospels, where Jesus encounters a number of demon-possessed people, those people are different than the vast numbers of people who don't believe in him. With the unbelievers, Jesus converses, debates, rebukes, and argues, but with the possessed people he performs an exorcism.

Also in the NT we don't find out the belief system of the person who is possessed and exorcized. We have no idea if they were Jews, Hindus, atheists, or used car salesmen (a particularly dangerous belief system!). The exorcisms are performed on people who are possessed based on their possession, not on their native or professed religion.
