We don't know enough about the biographies of the 12 to answer the question, but from the legends surrounding them, none of them were useless. You cannot devote your life to Jesus and be useless.
According to the Bible, the most useless disciple is the hypocrite—the one who honors God with their lips, but their heart is far from him. This doesn't describe any of the 12, but unfortunately it comments on many who claim the name of Jesus.
