It is neither about alcohol consumption nor abstention, but a word image about the fulfillment of the kingdom of God with his death and resurrection. It refers to the imminence of his suffering (I won't be celebrating another Passover with you) and the consummation of the eschatological fulfillment of the Passover meal (the death of the true lamb, the ingestion of the bread of life, the drinking of the wine of redemption and life [the 3rd cup of the Passover, the one after supper, was the cup of redemption]), and actual atonement for sin. There is no problem with seeing this a symbolic. The entire Passover meal was laden with symbolism sometimes several layers deep.

from Luke 22:18: I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until the day when I drink it anew with you in My Father's kingdom.

Where does it come from? does it have the same effect?
