What is the ideal society?

Postby Momentous » Tue May 17, 2022 12:16 pm

Christians, what is the ideal society or individual according to Christianity?

Hi everyone!

I'm a Sikh trying to get a better understanding of Christianity - I'm personally of the opinion that the validity of any ideology/belief system lies in the types of people and society it produces. Besides following the Bible and Jesus to redeem yourself from original sin inherited from Adam and Eve and getting into heaven and avoiding hell - what is the life of an Ideal human and and the structure of an Ideal society on Earth according to Christianity?

In the Bible, God does not dictate the shape of society. He does not seek to form a “perfect” society, because no society is perfect (since it is a society of fallen humans). He rather speaks into the shape of society as it exists in those times and encourages his people to live holy lives in that society. He does not dictate an ideal kind of government (monarchy vs. democracy); he does not dictate a system of marriage (arranged vs. love) or even polygamy vs. monogamy; he does not dictate the way that a society is stratified (slaves and free); he does not dictate a certain sort of economy (market economy vs. barter). Every social structure is flawed.

However, people who are truly following Christ will be moral, good, kind, hard-working, honest people and create a society based on truth, peace, justice, economic fairness, treating people with respect and dignity, advocating for the poor and oppressed, fair business practices, environmental responsibility, and governmental integrity.
