My translation/paraphrase of the verse is: "To achieve this goal, I exhaust myself—ever-contending with all the ever-replenishing inner strength Christ gives me."

It is Paul's goal to bring as many people to Christ as possible and to help them mature in their faith. This is the lifestyle and goal to which he is referring.
