Why did that star lead the Astrologers to Jerusalem?

According to the Bible record of “The Star of Bethlehem”, why did that star lead the Astrologers to Jerusalem and not to Bethlehem?

According to Matthew 2:1-3, it says, “After Jesus had been born in Bethʹle·hem of Ju·deʹa in the days of Herod the king, look! astrologers from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying: “Where is the one born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when we were in the East, and we have come to do obeisance to him.” 3 At hearing this, King Herod was agitated, and all Jerusalem with him.” Then as we all know, King Herod told those Astrologers to come back and tell him once they found this future King of the Jews, so that he could do obeisance to him too! But in a dream, those Astrologers were told not to go back to Herod.

The star didn't lead them to Jerusalem. According to the text, v. 2 does not claim that this star was leading them anywhere. It says they saw it (perhaps they saw an omen). They were looking for the king of the Jews, so Jerusalem would be the logical place for them to stop first. The star didn't lead them to Jerusalem.
