Is it possible to pray and convince god to do something that he wouldn't have done if it weren't for the prayer?

Or does prayer have no impact on the future outcome of an event?

There are several examples in Scripture of prayer directly motivating God to do something He otherwise wouldn't have done.

Israel begging for a king, and they get Saul.
