If God is all knowing, why do we need to pray to him and confess to him of all our sins and troubles?

Confessing our sins is an action of the mind, heart, and will we need to take. God knows our sins; God knows our needs, but we need to know ourselves and the deal with ourselves.

Yes. Confessing our sins is describing to God what we see and regret in ourselves, and repenting, in the words of C.S. Lewis, "is simply a description of what going back is like."
