What about people who leave Christianity?

Postby Periwinkle » Sun Mar 18, 2018 9:27 pm

Not trying to cause a stir or offend anyone. I'm legitimately asking.

I was raised Catholic and I'm now converting to Judaism. This is the first time I have ever felt close to G-d and have begun searching for G-d. Catholicism (and Christianity in general) just never felt right to me. What do Christians think of people who leave the religion for a religion that makes more sense to them? Wouldn't G-d rather someone search for him in a way that makes sense to them rather than just apathetically taking part in a religion they don't feel right in?

I'm glad to hear that you are seeking. It's what we're all supposed to do. We have to find the truth and stick with it. So saying, I'm glad you're feeling close to God, but feelings aren't what this is all about. It's about what's true. I don't really know any dynamics about what didn't "feel" right before, but what matters is what is true.

The obvious difference between Judaism and Christianity is Jesus. The question at hand is, "Is Jesus God?" If he is, moving from Christianity to Judaism is moving away from the true God. The whole book of Galatians speaks to what you are doing, but especially 3.1-14.

Again, we have to seek after the truth. As I'm sure you well know, Judaism and Christianity share what we call the Old Testament. In Luke 24.27 & 44, Jesus said that what is written in the Tanakh is about him.

The question at hand is: What is true? We have to follow what is true.
