There are good reasons to believe that God stops some. It is our power of moral and logical reasoning, belief in the dignity of humanity, our own intent to survive, and a moral belief that the destruction of humanity would be wrong that motivates us to make treaties, to restrict humanity-destroying weapons, and to refrain from using them. It is a Christian worldview that is behind these beliefs and actions. Since we believe that God works in the heart of his followers, that His Holy Spirit affects our thoughts and lives, and we strive to conform our beliefs, thoughts, and worldview to the nature of God, we can assume that God is stopping the mass destruction. The two cultures on our planet right now that threaten such destruction are North Korea (atheistic) and Iran (Muslim & Zoroastrianism).
The Bible prophesies that there will come a time in history when God will not stop it (Rev. 6, 8, & 9). He will likely use our ruining of the environment (Rev. 8, 14, et al) and war (Ezk. 38-39; Rev. 6.3-6, et al) to bring about the end of history and to establish his kingdom on Earth (Rev. 19.11-21).
