Moral behaviors maintain a mutually beneficial environment for human beings. If religious commandments weren't engineered by man to uphold moral behaviors within society, and are instead communication of a divine will, what is God's purpose for promoting morality? What does it accomplish in the scheme of eternity?

The purpose of morality is that we conform to the character of God and be all that we were created to be. The mutually beneficial environment for human beings is an offshoot and consequence of that, but not the purpose. Since God, by biblical definition, is "everything that is good, pure, noble, and right," our conforming to everything that is good, moral, pure and noble is not only right, but godlike, bringing fulfillment to our beings, and resulting in a mutually beneficial environment for human beings. God's purpose for promoting morality is to advocate life in perfect harmony with who we are as created beings.
