Why has Gospel of Mark been corrupted?

Postby Seraph » Mon Nov 22, 2021 2:48 pm

Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. [The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.] When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it. Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either. Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.” After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
Mark 16:8‭-‬20 NIV

The Bible says not to Add to God's word.

Eve added to Gods word and then The Fall happened.

This is the First Gospel in the New Testament, yet it seems to be corrupt.

Chapter 16 claims that it's latter half is an addition, this breaks God's command later on in the New Testament. Whoever added to Mark here deserves to be added to the curses within Revelation. Elsewhere in the Torah it commands humans not to add to Gods word.

This is a Gospel, it is evidence to allow for faith and salvation... Hence the title "Gospel" - Good News.

1. Why is the Good News of Mark false? We can't do magic poison tricks and to suggest this to a fresh new believer as a conclusion to the Gospel is shocking.

2. Why have those who crafted the Bible left in a corrupt Gospel and an addition which promises falsehoods?

3. I can't trust this text due to the translators little disclaimer. We cannot be certain other books have additions without disclaimers. This addition to God's Word throws doubt on every other Bible Book and each of the other three Gospels.

4. God is not the author of confusion, so how come his Gospel has confusion about this addition, and claims we can drink poison? This seems astonishingly dangerous and a rather pathetic and foolish conclusion to what should be a Good News Account to evidence for faith. Yet it is corrupt.

If an onion is rotten, do you throw away the whole onion or cut out the rot?

The last section was added later. We all know this. No one know who added it or why. The Gospel isn't corrupted. We know about the addition. We read it with interest, but don't give it authority.

> Why is the Good News of Mark false?

The good news of Mark is not false. The last 12 verses were added later. Ignore them if you wish, but the rest of Mark is authoritative.

> Why have those who crafted the Bible left in a corrupt Gospel and an addition which promises falsehoods?

God crafted the Bible. Mark 16.9-20 were not part of it. We ignore it.

> I can't trust this text due to the translators little disclaimer.

You CAN trust the text of Mark. What you can't trust is the added-on last 12 verses.

> We cannot be certain other books have additions without disclaimers. This addition to God's Word throws doubt on every other Bible Book and each of the other three Gospels.

No, it doesn't, We can be certain about other books. We have close to 6000 manuscripts, so we are quite knowledgable about the text. We know where the additions and variations are.

> God is not the author of confusion, so how come his Gospel has confusion about this addition, and claims we can drink poison?

It's not confusing. The last 12 verses were added later. It's simple and clear. The last 12 verses are not authoritative.

> If an onion is rotten, do you throw away the whole onion or cut out the rot?

It depends on how much of the onion is rotted, and what kind of rot it has. In this case, we disregard the last 12 verses of Mark and cherish the rest.
