Pardon?

You think belief is a choice? Ok, show me.

Be an atheist for one day. Then chose to go back to being a Christian tomorrow. Can you do that?

I am presently engaged in a discussion on Facebook about the evidences and counter-arguments concerning whether Donald Trump is a white supremacist or not. We are together bashing around ideas, evidences, perceptions, and various tentative conclusions as steps along the way to decipher what we (in my case, I) are going to believe about DT's character. We are actively pursuing the information so we can make an informed CHOICE and DECIDE what to BELIEVE.

I did the same thing with Christianity. Now that I know that Christianity is true based on the evidences, I am no longer at liberty to merely disregard the evidence I know are there. I have made my choice based on factors that I weighed and chose to believe, and my decision has been made. In this case it would be impossible and dishonest for me to desert it for a day only to return. That doesn't make any sense.

But I have heard of plenty of people who have become disillusioned with their belief and Christianity and have deserted it for atheism. They weighed the evidences and changed what they believed. I have also heard of plenty of people who were atheists who became Christians because they weighed the evidences and changed what THEY believed. It happens all the time.

Someone told me the other day about something they heard in the news, and I said, "I don't believe that." I choose not to believe that because it doesn't ring true. But if I were presented with enough evidence to make it convincing, I would choose to change what I believe about that event and the report of it.

Are you telling me that you have never chosen to change your mind about a subject? I'm going to choose not to believe that.
