What is is the explanation for how this number is satanic?

"666" occurs only once in the Bible, in Revelation 13.18. There it represents the Beast, who is the Anti-Christ. "The Beast" is a political and religious leader who deceives nations and leads people in opposition to God. In symbolism, he is powerful, persecuting, demonic, blasphemous, and hideous. He is a false prophet who mocks God, wages war against God, and leads people to blaspheme God. You can read all of Revelation 13 to get the idea of this person.

As far as the number "666", there is no end to the theories about what it means. The interpretations are all over the map.
