How do we know there's a God? What is he like?

Why do you believe in God?

1. Belief in God gives my life meaning and purpose. It's apparent to me that without God, life is centered in "myself", and "myself" is the only direction and purpose that life could possibly have. It's my opinion that if "myself" is all there is, life is shallow, directionless, and meaningless. My belief in God gives me a purpose in life and a cause for which to live.

2. I find that the evidence for the existence of God is convincing. Since no one can "prove" whether God exists or doesn't exist, we have to evaluate the weight of evidence. I find the arguments weighty, substantial, convincing, and more reasonable than the arguments against his existence.

3. Christianity squares with the way the world is and the way people are. It tells an honest and accurate story of humanity and life. The Biblical revelation of God as righteous, loving, just, holy, both immanent and transcendent, and active in history and in people's lives is to me a sensible picture of life as I know it.

4. I have known the lifechange that faith in God brings, and seen many others who have experienced bona fide lifechange through their faith. It's (Christianity) different from religious expression, which is a faith or cultic system; instead it brings genuine, inner, life-transforming change to people

5. Christianity helps me understand history, science, philosophy, and psychology.

6. Christianity makes logical sense and is reasonable.

7. The existence of God makes sense with what I see of conscience, morality, beauty, and purpose.

As Paul says in Philippians 1.21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." God is the aim, the goal, of my life. God is my life. There is no thought of life apart from Christ. Life is summed up in God. Christ is its inspiration, its aim, and its end. To trust, love, obey, preach, follow, suffer—all things are with and in Christ. Christ is the One and All to give meaning and significance to all existence, the only One who really matters. Christ is all to me—life itself. That's why I believe in God. God is real, he is true, and he is my life.
