I would say no, it's not ethical. The whole ruse is based on deceit, and on top of that doing it to earn money from sponsors and viewers. It's deceiving, voyeuristic, and exploitative.
> So I was wondering if Christian doctrine permits such a scenario to be tolerated/ supported given its moral ambiguity?
No. I wouldn't put it in the category of moral ambiguity. It's deceiving, voyeuristic, and exploitative.
> Does Jesus/ his disciples/ the bible comment about relevant abstract matters such as mass surveillance and psychological torture?
Mass surveillance was not a possibility in the 1st century, so there couldn't possibly be comments about it. Psychological torture (you mean like they did to Truman)? Not that I can think of. Lots of people were persecuted, and physical persecution always has a psychological element, but I can't think of anything specific, and especially not from Jesus. Maybe someone else would have a suggestion to this end.
