I think "God is heaven" is far more misleading than "God is in heaven." "God is heaven" pertains to identity and attributes, whereas the latter pertains to an understanding of locality (granted, it's a misperception, but it isn't as much messing with who God is and what His attributes are. We don't want to do anything that reduces God to being less than He is.)
