Where does depression or other disorders come from?

I keep hearing people say that depression or other mental disorders are God testing you, or the devil playing a game on you. But I want to know what you believe.

Depression comes from many different sources: biological predisposition, chemical imbalances, difficult circumstances, and spiritual situations.

I find that depression is best treated by medication and therapy, which can include talk therapy, behavioral modification, and spiritual counseling.
