This text is about the blessings that come to a person who “acknowledges” God. The blessings are many, and they’re both internal and external: Living a long, successful, and peaceful life, in favor with both God and man, and you will be both healthy and wealthy. I made very clear that these are proverbs, not promises. Good Christians do die young, struggle for finances, and suffer with terrible diseases. But the teaching is that generally people who live to honor God are healthier, more peaceful, and more successful than people who mess up their lives, live dishonestly, and live for themselves.
