Proverbs 31.13 — Women of intellect and skill

“She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.” The ideal woman of Proverbs 31 is not a stuck-at-home mom, but she’s out in the marketplace to obtain what she needs. (I did NOT, make note, even imply that there is anything lesser or wrong about a stay-at-home mom. I’m just following the point of the text.) She is known for her discernment and good decisions, and she must be a good critical thinker. She knows how to shop for quality and for deals, which takes both skill and intelligence. And then she follows it up with the work, and she does it with a good attitude (“eager hands”). The point? She’s not some lesser human being who has to sit at home because she’s too stupid to function in society. She’s out there using her intellect, intuitions, and skills to get done what needs to get done.
